Job Role:

The role of a Joiner in the Construction Industry involves building timber structures such as partition walls, door and window openings, floor joists, stair cases and hand rails in homes and fixing wooden components such as doors, skirting and wall and floor units.

The training programme aims to give those who attend the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to become a qualified Joiner and build a successful future working in the Construction Industry.

The training will provide details of working in the Construction Industry and of the different areas of construction that relate to the Joiner trade. The programme includes developing skills such as:

· Working safely in construction.
· The principles of building methods and construction.
· Materials in joinery and construction.
· Estimating in joinery.
· How to carry out first fix joinery.
· How to carry out second fix joinery.
· How to erect timber structures.
· How to carry out maintenance in joinery.
· How to construction a timber frame.
· Setting up and operating timber cutting equipment.

Successful Joiners frequently progress to Supervisory and Management roles within companies or own their own businesses.

Essential Criteria:

Candidates must be aged 16 to 18 years old.

Desirable Criteria:

Applicants should be interested in working in the Construction Industry as Carpentry & Joinery in the future.

Training Offered:

The Apprenticeship Framework is made up of the following qualifications:

Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry
Level 2 NVQ in Wood Occupations
Level 1 English Functional/Key Skills
Level 1 Maths Functional/Key Skills
Employment Rights & Responsibilities
Construction Skills Health & Safety Test

Additional Information:

Pay: Wages are £40.53 per week.
Holidays: 11 days per year
Trial Period: 3 months
Closing date: 13th August 2010  
Start Date:   6th September 2010  

Days & Times of work:

Hours are 9am to 3.30pm for 2 days per week – Monday & Tuesday.
Some course work will be completed via distance learning and there will be a minimum of 3 weeks work experience where full time hours will be required. Hours will be defined by the work placement.
